Message from the Provost

Thank You for Your Dedication and Cooperation

As you are aware, this academic year got off to a difficult start. The August 8 cyberattack affected critical systems across the university. President Farvardin has commended the dedication and effort of our Information Technology (IT) and Emergency Management teams, and I want to echo his praise. Beyond that, I would like to express my profound gratitude to everyone on the academic side of the institution. Our faculty and the staff in our schools and in key administrative offices demonstrated their commitment to ensuring that Stevens was able to carry out its academic mission and serve our students. Selected Faculty Honors and Achievements

Elaine Henry (SB) has been named president of the international accounting section of the American Accounting Association.

Samantha Kleinberg, Computer Science (SES), has secured roughly $2.3 million in three new grants by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health to develop artificial intelligence that provides personalized information to patients.

Reza Marsooli, Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering (SES), was the lead author of an article in Nature Communications.

Dibyendu “Dibs” Sarkar, Civil Environmental and Ocean Engineering (SES), has been selected as a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), the largest soil science society in the world.

Alex Wellerstein (CAL) was quoted in The Economist in an article about nuclear weapons policy.

EH Yang, Mechanical Engineering (SES), has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Dean Jean Zu (SES) has been recognized as one of Crain’s New York Business’ 2019 Notable Woman in Tech for her outstanding leadership and scholarship.

Dr. David Zeng Named Vice Provost for Academic Innovation and Faculty Affairs

Dr. David Zeng, a recognized innovator in civil engineering and an accomplished administrator at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, joined Stevens Institute of Technology as Vice Provost for Academic Innovation and Faculty Affairs in August.
