Congratulations on an Outstanding Academic Year

It’s hard to believe that the academic year is almost over. Shortly, members of the class of 2019 — one of our strongest ever — will be starting the next phase of their lives, either in the professional world or by continuing their studies at more advanced levels. I am proud of every one of our graduates and I wish them all the best. Their success is the culmination of an extraordinary year at Stevens. Selected Faculty Honors and Achievements

Dean Jean Zu (SES), was named one of the 2019 Notable Women in Tech by Crain’s New York Business.

Muhammad Hajj, Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering (SES), received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut.

EH Yang, Mechanical Engineering (SES), has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

An exhibition now running in the Netherlands features work by Jeff Thompson, director of the CAL Visual Arts and Technology Program.

Suman Banerjee (SB) gave a keynote speech about his research on the mitigating effects gender-diverse boards have on overconfident CEOs at the Magnolia Finance Conference in March.

A solar-powered boat, a smart contact lens for monitoring glaucoma patients, a school security system capable of detecting active shootings and a rocket set to launch this summer were just some of the student inventions the public saw at the annual Innovation Expo.

Before He Became an Iconic Artist, Alexander Calder Embraced Campus Life at Stevens

Alexander Calder’s early life, and particularly his time at Stevens, was the subject of a campus lecture by biographer and art critic Jed Perl to mark the 100th anniversary of the artist’s graduation from Stevens in 1919.

With a perfect GPA of 4.0, Justin Barish, Matthew McCreesh and Carolina Velasquez have attained the highest academic honors among this year’s graduates and are first in the Stevens Institute of Technology Class of 2019.
