Message from the Provost

Signs of Rebirth as Spring Arrives

Spring is a time of renewal. And I am happy to report that after nearly a year of pandemic-related disruptions and changes, the spring 2021 semester has begun amid hopeful signs. After a delayed start, classes got underway February 1 with many of our graduating undergraduate seniors joining the groups of students who had previously been invited to campus. I am pleased that we can offer these students one more opportunity to be together before they graduate, and I wish them the best as they conclude their careers at Stevens. Continue Reading>

Selected Faculty Honors and Achievements

Dean Jean Zu (SES) was named a cabinet member of the new Campaign for Next Generation Engineers Leadership of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

John Horgan, director of the Center for Science Writings (CAL), is the author of the recently published book, Pay Attention: Sex, Death, and Science.

Weina Meng, Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering (SES), and Hang Liu, Electrical and Computer Engineering (SES), are recipients of prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER awards. Meng’s work has applications in materials; Liu’s is focused on data analysis.

Stefano Bonini (SB) was interviewed by CNN Business about the role rising bond yields could play in hampering economic recovery.

Ying Wu (SB) spoke with BBC World News about Hong Kong's future as a global financial center.

Kishore Pochiraju and Brendan Englot, Mechanical Engineering (SES), were awarded a $1.4 million DARPA grant with colleagues at Princeton University and Perspecta Labs. Their project is aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning to help humans with complex engineering design tasks.

Workday Student

Workday Student Set for Launch in March!

  • Faculty and staff with access to Workday Student will be able to use it starting Thursday, March 4.
  • Students will have access starting Wednesday, March 10.
  • Summer 2021 registration for all students will take place using our current student information system (SIS) beginning Monday, March 29.
  • Fall 2021 registration for all students will take place using Workday Student beginning Tuesday, April 6 (updated from Monday, March 29). The Office of the Registrar will provide detailed information about the registration schedule for graduate and undergraduate students.

Workday Student is Stevens’ comprehensive new student information system that streamlines many of the tasks you need to perform from enrollment through commencement. Workday Student is an extension of the Workday HCM (Human Capital Management) platform that Stevens faculty, staff and student workers already use to manage all their human resources tasks. Workday Student brings a host of additional functions to Workday and places everyone at Stevens on a single modern platform that can be accessed with a single login.

A Stevens’ Professor’s Contributions to the Landing of the Mars Rover Perseverance

On February 18, the rover Perseverance landed on Mars to sample rocks and find signs of life. Stevens Assistant Professor Jason Rabinovitch contributed to the engineering of this mission and shares his expertise on space exploration.


Stevens Students Win Top Spots at Maritime Risk Symposium Competition

Student groups researching resilient infrastructure systems took the top three spots at the 11th Annual Maritime Risk Symposium, hosted by the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute (CIRI), a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, and the National Academy of Sciences.


Scholl Awards Power Launchpad Startups

Launchpad@Stevens is a program in which students learn to develop business ideas and practice building a company. Ahead of the spring 2021 semester, ten teams received a cash award from the inaugural Thomas H. Scholl Awards for Launchpad.


Stevens Continues to Lead in Online Learning

Stevens Institute of Technology has been named one of the top providers of online graduate programs in the state and nation in the latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report. Stevens placed in six disciplines, ranking No. 1 in New Jersey across five of them.


Harvesting Artificial Intelligence to Solve Societal Challenges: AI Institute Director Jason Corso

Jason Corso has joined Stevens as a chaired professor in the computer science department and incoming director of the Stevens Institute for Artificial Intelligence (SIAI). As Stevens expands its footprint in AI, he will bring new ideas and strategies to the university's initiatives in the discipline.


Despite Dismal Jobs Market, Stevens Business Class of 2020 Sets Records

Despite the pandemic and in the midst of one of the worst job markets in recent history, business students from Stevens are still getting the jobs they want — and at record salaries — according to the career outcomes report for the School of Business Class of 2020.
