Stevens Receives 2018 ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation

On Sunday, March 11, 2018, Stevens received the 2018 American Council on Education/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation, among the most prestigious awards in higher education.

The award recognizes the incredible progress that has taken place at Stevens since 2011 across nearly all aspects of the University—enrollment growth, academic profile of students, faculty accomplishments, alumni engagement, philanthropic support, strengthened financials, increased diversity, and enhanced relations with the local community and other key constituencies.

"Stevens Institute of Technology … illustrate(s) how addressing issues head-on—plus a lot of hard work and collaboration—can help transform an institution," said ACE President Ted Mitchell.

The award, which was conferred following a very competitive national selection process, recognizes institutions that have responded to higher education challenges in innovative and creative ways and achieved dramatic changes in a relatively brief period. It includes a $10,000 award to Stevens.

Please visit the President's Facebook page to see more photos of the awards ceremony and the Stevens website to learn more about the ACE/Fidelity Institutional Transformation Award.

Stevens Solar Decathlon Winner, SU+RE House, to Open as Permanent Exhibit at Liberty Science Center

This spring, the SU+RE House, the solar home designed and built by Stevens faculty and students and inspired by the challenges of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, will open as a permanent exhibit at Liberty Science Center.

More than 50 students and faculty worked during 2014 and 2015 on the SU+RE House, an energy efficient and resilient home that uses 90% less energy than traditional coastal homes, is powered by solar energy, and becomes a resilient energy hub to provide emergency power to its neighborhood in the aftermath of a storm.

After the international competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy in Irvine, California in 2015, in which the Stevens entry took first place with a record score of 950.685 out of 1,000, and with the generous support of PSEG, the house was shipped back to New Jersey and re-constructed on the site of Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ.

The exhibit will expand the footprint of the Liberty Science Center and enhance programming related to renewable energy, tropical storm systems, and resilient construction.

A grand opening is being planned for late spring 2018. Please stay tuned for more details.
