As we near the end of the semester at Stevens, the positive momentum of the university is evident in the media acknowledgments we have received. Between February 1 and April 30, 2018, Stevens was extensively covered by national and regional media, receiving 1,022 mentions. This includes major features in digital, broadcast and print media, highlighting faculty research and the outstanding accomplishments of our students and staff.

Below are select media highlights resulting from the distribution of multiple news releases, the fielding of dozens of media inquiries seeking expert commentary on a variety of issues and current events, as well as targeted outreach to promote stories and initiatives from Stevens.*

CNBC Power Lunch Stock Draft

Six students from Stevens were invited to participate in the 2018 CNBC Power Lunch Stock Draft. The draft, a national competition among eight teams of investors and celebrities, kicks off a competition to choose the companies that enjoy the best market performance over the next nine months. The group of Quantitative Finance students from Stevens is the only student team in the competition. Jim Cramer of "Mad Money" and Guy Adami of "Fast Money" provided analysis during the live broadcast. Research, Innovation and Technology

Integrating technology, homework help and calculus

Alexei Miasnikov spoke with Inside Higher Ed about Graduarius and why this Stevens-developed platform serves as a model for technology-enhanced learning. This was a direct result of President Nariman Farvardin meeting with editor Doug Lederman in Washington, D.C. to increase Stevens' visibility and exposure.


Concussions originate from ringing deep inside the brain, modeling suggests

Science Magazine interviewed Mehmet Kurt about his research on the nature of concussions and its impact on the brain. The news was also covered in The Mercury News, East Bay Times, Futurity and Everyday Health. The Mercury News article was syndicated in 55 outlets across 18 states.


Stevens researchers study smart football helmet with airbags

Mehmet Kurt gave WCBS News Radio a tour of his lab and discussed his research on designing a smarter helmet to prevent concussions.


Use this map to see how your neighborhood would look after a nuclear bomb

Alex Wellerstein spoke with The Seattle Times about a nuclear simulator that relies on data from his "Nuke Map" to measure the impact of a nuclear war. Similar articles were published in Mashable, Gizmodo, The Guardian, National Journal and Fast Company.


Invisible killers

Theresa MacPhail appeared on the Discovery Channel as a featured expert in a documentary about influenza and the ongoing threat it poses, as well as the complex science behind it.


'Local environment' plays key role in breast cancer progression

ScienceDaily interviewed Deep Parikh about how changes in a tumor's local environment can play a role in the progression of breast cancer. The news was also covered by Science NewsLine.


On the roof with...Elizabeth Fassman-Beck, Stevens Institute of Technology

Elizabeth Fassman-Beck talked to Living Architecture Monitor and was featured as an expert for its cover story about storm water management and green roof technology.

Colleges in these states are pledging support for students' #NeverAgain movement for gun control

Stevens position on students' participation in peaceful protests was featured in Newsweek. It was also covered in Yahoo! News, The Hudson Reporter and 92.7 WOBM Radio.


Stevens launches Stevens Institute for Artificial Intelligence

The launch of the Stevens Institute for Artificial Intelligence was covered by New Jersey Business Magazine. NJBiz, The Hudson Reporter and Innovation New Jersey also published stories on the news.


National award for successful 'transformation' snagged by 2 N.J. universities

NJ.com wrote a story about Stevens winning the ACE/Fidelity Award for institutional transformation. The news was also covered by NJBiz, College Planning & Management and ROI-NJ, and featured in the ASEE First Bell newsletter.


Stephen T. Boswell elected chairman of the Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees

The Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey published a story about Stephen T. Boswell being elected as the new chairman of the Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. The news was also covered by NJ.com and the Hoboken Patch.


Virtual campus tour incorporates photorealistic views, video commentary

Stevens' new virtual tour and interactive campus map, which was nominated for a Webby Award, was covered by Campus Technology. It was singled out as one of the five best in the world in the Best University/School Website category, representing the top 10 percent of 13,000 entries.


President of leading financial services firm to speak at Stevens commencement

NJ.com published a story about Roger Ferguson Jr., president and chief executive of TIAA, speaking at Stevens’ 2018 Commencement. Inside Higher Ed also published a link to Stevens’ release.
