Stevens Makes Major Move Into AI, Machine Learning

Applications include health care, fitness, cybersecurity, self-driving cars

Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that harness big data are rapidly changing the world. Stevens is at the leading edge of this technology, performing research that promises to transform the way we do business, take care of our health, commute to work and more.

Supplementing its robust AI research program, Stevens also regularly brings prominent innovators in the space to campus. Google Research Director Peter Norvig discussed AI and machine-learning in a public lecture at Stevens in April titled "Creating Software with Machine Learning: Challenges and Promise."

Prior to the lecture, Stevens President Nariman Farvardin sat down with Dr. Norvig to discuss the promise — as well as the potential perils — of these powerful technologies.
