Sustainable Stevens: How the University Is Helping Plan A Greener Future

By fall 2021, Stevens will be sourcing all campus electricity from local renewable energy sources. This commitment — one of the first of its kind among U.S. universities — is the latest in an impressive series of green initiatives taken on at Castle Point. Other environmentally conscious efforts include installation of solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations, use of cogeneration technology, LEED-certified construction projects, and of course, pioneering research conducted by Stevens’ prestigious Davidson Lab.

Stevens Student Seeks the Sweet Spot in Measuring the Effect of Stress on Glucose Levels

Stress can have surprising effects on the body — including raising blood glucose levels. For people with type 1 diabetes, regulating these levels can be challenging, especially since stress can be hard to quantify. Chemical biology major Michelle Morrone '21 is seeking a solution as part of her senior design project, using electrodermal activity (EDA) measurements and machine learning models to better predict effective insulin dosage.

A Stevens Professor's Dedication Rescues Students' Lab Experience from COVID-19

In response to health concerns brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Faith Kim, a professor in Stevens' Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, has gone above and beyond to ensure that her students still have access to valuable hands-on learning experiences. Her safety-conscious hybrid instruction method allowed nearly 500 students an opportunity to learn important laboratory skills in-person.

Stevens Hosts Hoboken Climate Hackathon to Drive Technology-Based Solutions

The week-long event — sponsored by startup incubator The Stevens Venture Center — challenged more than 80 participants from academia and industry to build solutions to help solve climate-related problems in the university’s hometown. The winning entry, an app developed by a team of Stevens students, aims to reduce food waste at local businesses while fostering community growth.
