Stevens Ranks #5 in the Nation in ROI
PayScale's 2014 College ROI Report has once again ranked Stevens Institute of Technology as a top university for return on investment. At #5 in the nation, Stevens maintains its elite status with other top colleges and universities. This year's report, which looks at 20-year ROI, ranks more than 1,300 institutions based on total out-of-pocket costs (taking financial aid into consideration) and alumni earnings. ROI for Stevens students doesn't have to wait 20 years: Within six months of graduation, the Stevens Class of 2013 already felt the impact of their Stevens education, with 94% of graduates having secured employment or enrolled in graduate programs (88% of the class reporting). The average starting salary of our 2013 graduates was $64,700, and 48% of these graduates received multiple job offers. Read the Class of 2013 Outcomes Report.

More than 30 million pounds of bullets, bombs, missiles, mustard gas containers and other unexploded ordnances (UXO) lie submerged in nearshore U.S. coastal waters, a serious environmental and safety hazard. Now a Stevens-built underwater robot may have changed the game in underwater search for UXOs. The Stevens student team created a vehicle that deploys a combination of leading-edge sensors, detectors and video cameras to aid operators on the surface in locating and analyzing UXOs in bodies of water — without endangering the lives of divers or the seaworthiness of vessels.

The devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy demonstrated the critical importance of forecasting, disaster preparedness, and building more resilient infrastructure into coastal cities in order to protect property and preserve life. Researchers at the Davidson Laboratory at Stevens are collaborating with officials and experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other leading academics on prevention, mitigation, emergency preparedness, logistics and resilience.

Stevens is only the third institution to receive this coveted distinction more than once, joining Princeton and Williams.
