Stevens Chemistry Professor Receives 2017 Edison Patent Award
Athula Attygalle, an internationally recognized expert in mass spectrometry, was honored by the R&D Council of New Jersey for his work in a new patented process, Helium-Plasma Ionization, that significantly reduces consumption of helium for plasma generation.

The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 led to the United States' entry into World War II. As part of the war effort, Stevens' senior class graduated several weeks early in the spring of 1942 in response to the nation's heightened demand for engineering workers. In 1943, Stevens was one of 131 of the nation's colleges and universities selected by the U.S. Navy for the V-12 College Training Program, which granted bachelor's degrees to future officers through an accelerated two-year degree program from 1943 to 1946.
