Stevens Through the Years

ImageHoused within the Edwin A. Stevens Hall, DeBaun Auditorium is the home of the university's performing arts, including the exciting new arts and cultural series OnStage at Stevens. Prior to its conversion into a theater in 1903, DeBaun served as a laboratory, classroom and even a gym. In 1910 the Stevens Dramatic Society was born here, using the theater for at least one production per semester. The Society achieved acclaim for its pioneering advances in all aspects of the theater arts and theater subsequently flourished at Stevens. Once known as the Stevens Experimental Theater, it was the testing ground for new and innovative Broadway sound and lighting techniques; later, the sound system for the first 3D movie was developed in Stevens' theater, which remains the heartbeat of the dramatic arts at the university today.
