Stevens Through the Years

ImageHenry L. Gantt, inventor of the "Gantt chart" for mapping project timelines and resources, was a colleague of fellow Stevens alumnus Frederick Winslow Taylor, who is known as the father of scientific management. After obtaining entry to Stevens in 1883, Gantt graduated in record time in 1884, having passed special examinations. He played an important role in World War I by overseeing the production of military arsenal such as rifles, guns, ammunition and other war material. The early adoption of his chart as a managerial tool during the war popularized the invention and made Gantt famous.
