Stevens Through the Years

ImagePainter, draftsman, architect, inventor, scientist and engineer, Leonardo da Vinci epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. Born on April 15, 1452 near the Tuscan capital of Florence, the Italian genius is admired the world over. At Stevens, his extraordinary legacy can be appreciated at the Samuel C. Williams Library, home to one of the finest accumulations in the Western Hemisphere of prints, manuscripts in facsimile and books by and about the Renaissance artist and intellectual. This collection was initiated by a donation from John William Lieb, a member of the Stevens Class of 1880 credited with the invention of hydroelectric power plants in their modern form.
