STEVENS THROUGH THE YEARS

In 1957, Stevens alumnus Alfred Fielding '39 M.S. '43 invented bubble wrap with a Swiss partner in a New Jersey garage as a new type of energy-efficient insulation or wallpaper. Those uses didn't pan out. Once the partners switched to packaging, however, the invention took off. Today the company they founded is still based in New Jersey, with nearly $8 billion in worldwide revenues annually. That's a lot of bubble wrap!
