Stevens Selected to Compete in Department of Energy’s 2015 Solar Decathlon
Stevens has been selected to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy’s prestigious Solar Decathlon for the third consecutive time. The Stevens team will compete against 19 schools in the international competition to build a solar-powered, energy-efficient home that combines affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence.

Former NYC Chief Urban Designer Alexandros Washburn Joins Stevens
Stevens welcomes Alexandros Washburn, formerly the chief urban designer of New York City, as industry professor and founding director of the Center for Coastal Resilience and Urban Xcellence (CRUX). Professor Washburn’s appointment is a joint venture between the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering & Science and the School of Systems & Enterprises.

Stevens Opens Biotechnology and Drug-Discovery Laboratory
The Center for Healthcare Innovation at Stevens has opened a Biotechnology and Drug Discovery Laboratory, established in part with a generous donation of equipment and supplies from Hoffmann-La Roche and support from the New Jersey Department of Labor.

Stevens Unveils Trio of New Pre-College Summer Programs
A select group of high school students will have the opportunity to build their own companies, design educational video games and tackle timely science and technology issues when Stevens unveils three new pre-college summer programs in 2014: Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Engineering Game Design, and Science, Technology & Society.

Stevens Study Published as Cover of Prestigious Cell Journal
Stevens research on the structure of the nuclear pore complex (NPC) is featured on the cover of the prestigious journal "Cell." The study, co-authored by Stevens Assistant Professor Joseph Glavy, details a novel approach to studying the cellular machine and presents a blueprint describing the organization of the NPC’s scaffold components.

Stevens Revolutionizes Calculus Instruction
Stevens’ new, interactive method of teaching calculus – which includes live and video lectures, team workshops, online learning activities and an instant feedback mechanism – has helped first-year students achieve a remarkable 97 percent passing rate and 96 percent retention rate, as well as acquire a deeper understanding of mathematics that carries over to advanced coursework.

Stevens Students Design Unmanned Underwater Vehicle to Locate Submerged Explosives
A team of interdisciplinary Stevens students, participating in a government program called Perseus, are using advanced technology to protect against detonation of unexploded munitions. They've built a sophisticated underwater vehicle capable of locating and analyzing explosive devices beneath the water’s surface.

Stevens Receives NSF Grant to Retain and Advance Female Faculty in STEM Fields
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $550,000, five year grant to Stevens to help retain and advance female faculty in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The grant will support strategies such as workplace climate assessments, review of work-life policies, professional development and mentoring.
