In this context, classical optimization theory is studied - that is, the application of calculus to the basic problem of finding the maxima and minima of a continuous function of one or more variables, using Lagrange multipliers, and paying particular attention to convex and concave functions. Although the course is mathematical in nature, the emphasis is on the underpinning ideas and applications, rather than a systematic exposition of results.
