Alumnus Visits Stevens to Give Nano Lecture

On Wednesday March 31, 2010, Professor Hao Li, PhD alumnus in Materials Science and Engineering visited to Stevens to lead a discussion as part of the Nanoseminar Series in the Nanotechnology Graduate Program entitled, “Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications – Biosensors and Bionanocomposites.”

Topics discussed during this presentation included:

  • How nanomaterials and nanostructures could be applied to make sensors and nanocomposites with potential biomedical applications.
  • The viability of using horizontally aligned ZnO nanonecklaces as surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors
  • Reports of recent findings on ceramic reinforced polymer nanocomposites and the critical influence of surface/interface engineering on nanocomposite mechanical properties.

About Professor Li

Professor Hao Li, currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engieering Department at the University of Missouri, earned his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Stevens in 2003 under Professor Woo Lee of the CEMS department.

Dr. Li's current research focuses on synthesis, characterization, and application of novel nanostructured materials and biomedical materials with advanced properties. Dr. Li received NSF Career Award in 2009, and he received the Rising Star of Entrepreneurship and Innovation with recognition from both Senate and House of Representatives of the State of the Missouri in 2008. Prior to his PhD Professor Li earned BE and ME degrees in Materials Science from Xi'an Jiaotong University in China.
