Abstract:  In this talk we will discuss certain aspects of the elementary theory (first order theory) of finitely generated nilpotent groups. In particular we will provide an algebraic characterization of groups elementarily equivalent to a free nilpotent group. Some related concepts and problems such as limits of free nilpotent groups and possible applications to large scale geometry of nilpotent groups will also be discussed.
