Stevens Pipeline is a web application for reaching technology resources. One username and password connects you to multiple services.
- cpipe is Pipeline's server
- nexus is the e-mail server used by Pipeline
- storage01 is a server for personal file storage and web pages (It is NOT part of Pipeline.)
Getting Started Tips
- Log in the first time with your Pipeline username and Web for Faculty or Web for Student PIN to set up your Pipeline password. Each person has only one account on Pipeline.
- Look for e-mail by clicking the e-mail icon, then on Inbox.
- Faculty may enter messages for members of their class(es) on that class's Message Board.
- Click on your course's link on your My Courses tab. (Pipeline's Message Board is available if the faculty member is not using WebCT for the course.)
My Pipeline Tips
- "Personal" Announcements (announcements directed to you) can be deleted after you read them.
- Announcements intended for students should be submitted to Student Life (e-mail email@example.com).
- Submit other announcements (for Stevens staff, faculty, or for the entire Institute) to the Print Shop via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Microsoft Outlook can be configured to manage your Pipeline e-mail on the server called nexus.
- Mozilla Thunderbird can also be configured to manage your Pipeline e-mail on nexus.
- Use Options to set your personal e-mail preferences.
- To keep copies of Sent messages, choose Options, Mail Preferences. (NOTE: By default, copies of Sent messages are NOT saved.)
- Look under Auto Reply to set up a vacation/away message.
- Use Auto Forward to forward e-mail from Nexus (Pipeline) to some other e-mail address.
- Create and enable your personal signature file under Signature.
- By default, deleted messages are immediately (and permanently) erased. To send deleted messages to the Deleted folder instead, choose Display Settings. Remember to clean out the Deleted folder regularly.
- Click on Web For Students or Web For Faculty, depending on who you are. No separate login needed.
- Manage your Duckbills at the Online Card Office.
- Listen to voicemail online using Callpilot.
- Change your Campus Domain password (used for accessing your storage01 space).
- Get the proxy username and password for off-campus access to Library databases.
- Set preferences for Spam e-mail filtering. Information Technology recommends choosing Aggressive. The default setting is Conservative.
- Check your e-mail and storage01 quota (amount of space you have) and how much you are currently using.
- Go to Mailman mailing lists.
My Courses Tips for Faculty
- Faculty have access to 5 Pipeline tools for each class they teach (unless they use WebCT for a course): Course Links, Message Board, Calendar, Course Chat, and Email Class.
- Students have three (3) Pipeline Communication Tools (Message Board, Calendar, and "Course Chat) for non-WebCT classes. They can also visit Course Links if you have put links up for the course.
- To quickly post messages to the entire class, use the course's Pipeline Message Board. (Inform your students to check there often if you expect to use that feature.)
- If you requested a WebCT course area, faculty can click into the WebCT course on My Courses. You must "enable" WebCT within Pipeline so you and your students can click into your WebCT course from Pipeline.
- To grant your Teaching Assistant access to Pipeline tools for your course, (Email Class, and Course Links), ask the Registrar to add your TA as an "instructor". Same procedure is needed to allow a TA to assist with a WebCT course.
- If your course uses WebCT, the TA must log into the course at http://webct.stevens.edu. The
- WebCT course will not appear on your TA's Pipeline My Courses tab.
- E-mail your class using WebCT's e-mail tool if you use WebCT. (If you prefer to send e-mail to students' Pipeline mailboxes, here is a workaround. Temporarily disable WebCT for that course. Look for Pipeline's Email Class feature for that course. Send e-mail to the class or to selected members. Remember to re-enable WebCT for the course after you are done.)
- To obtain a Pipeline Group, request the new group using Groups, My Groups, Create Group. Click on the Groups Index to see choices of categories for your group, e.g., Cultural, Social, Academic, etc.
- Decide if you want a Public (green) or Restricted (yellow) group.
- If your group is Restricted, others must request membership using the Join Group button.
- The group leader (or someone delegated by the leader) will approve (or deny membership) requests for membership in a restricted group.
- Choose which Group communication tools you want the group to have. Select A (active) for each tool you want the group to have. D (delegated) means you are delegating someone in the group to share Group Leader tasks for that tool.
- Student Life reviews requests for all requests for student Pipeline groups.
- Information Technology handles requests for academic and administrative Pipeline groups.
- You will receive e-mail notification when your group is approved.
- Everyone has a personal calendar.
- Each Pipeline Group and each course also has a calendar. (WebCT has its own separate calendar for each course.)
- Add a new Event (for one or repeating days) by clicking the New Event Button. Or click on the yellow circle with a plus in it on the day for the new event.
- New Tasks are for To-Do List items.
- You can combine calendars into one grouped calendar. Go to Calendars, Groups, New Group. Name the combined calendar. Select all the calendars you want included in your grouped calendar.
- To allow others to have various permissions to a calendar, click on Edit next to the calendar's name. Choose Permissions tab. Add the person's Pipeline username as an Owner, and click OK. Click the Permissions tab. Add the additional owner's username, and then click OK. Next check the box(es) for the permissions the person should have for your calendar. Note the Permissions for Everybody and change them if needed. If you wish someone to be able to act on your behalf (accept or decline invitations, etc.), make them an owner by clicking on the Owners tab.
- General help, and special help topics for faculty, are available in Pipeline. Click on Pipeline's icon.
- On Pipeline, the e-mail address for the Help Desk is email@example.com.
File storage and web space
- All faculty, staff, and undergraduate students have Windows Campus Domain accounts for access to storage space on the server called storage01. Graduate students may request a Windows domain account and space on storage01 by logging into Web for Students and clicking on Graduate Student Network Disk Storage Request. You should have your account and space the next day. If for some reason your account request does not go through by the next day, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Searching for People and E-mail Addresses
If you are not sure of someone's Pipeline e-mail address, you can search for it inside the E-mail tool.
- From Pipeline's E-mail tool, click on Compose. Click on the Address button, and then click Search.
- From the drop-down menu, select Stevens Directory. Everyone at Stevens with a Pipeline account has an entry in this directory.
You may also select someone from your personal address book (if you have set up a personal address book in Pipeline). Select Personal Address Book instead of Stevens Directory.
- Enter the person's first name and/or last name.
- You can also search by e-mail address. You might want to search by the e-mail address to make sure you are spelling the person's first name correctly, or to be sure you are sending the message to the correct person if he or she has a common last name. You may use "*" as a wildcard in the e-mail address. (E.g., d*evan*)
- Select the correct person from the search results by clicking in the to, cc, or bcc checkbox. Then click the Address button.
- Click OK on the next screen to continue composing the message to the addressee you selected.
"Logout" and Password Tips
- Please protect your Pipeline account. Click on Logout when you are finished with your Pipeline session.
- Pipeline will log you out automatically after 3 hours of inactivity.
- To change your Pipeline password, look under Options and click Password. Follow password rules as shown.
- If you forget or lose your Pipeline password, contact the Help Desk at email@example.com or call 201 216-5500.
