    Professional Judgement

    Professional Judgments are reviewed and processed by the Director of Financial Aid. A student seeking a professional judgment must complete a special circumstance form found on our financial aid website at

    Conditions in which you are eligible to apply for a special circumstance review:

    • Loss of a spouse
    • Loss or change in employment or income
    • Change in marital status
    • One time income benefit: (lottery winnings or inheritance)

    All Special Circumstance request forms require document substantiation. As an example, if the student or parent has been laid off or lost their job you must be out of work for at least 8 weeks and the following documents will need to be provided:

    • Last paystub
    • Proof of severance pay
    • Letter of termination/salary or overtime reduction
    • Proof of unemployment/disability benefits

    There are certain conditions no longer considered special circumstances such as:

    • Private grammar school or high school tuition
    • Dental or Medical Expenses
