  • Protiviti (posted September 13, 2013)

    From: "Lamontagne, Rachel (10170)"
Subject: Job Opportunity for Graduating Seniors

I graduated in 2012 with a degree in CyberSecurity and was hired by a company called Protiviti into their Information Security and Privacy Management Practice. I've had success here and they are currently looking to recruit directly to Computer Science students at Stevens with knowledge and experience in information security for full time positions after graduation. There may also be some availability for juniors looking for a summer internship. Protiviti already recruits from the Business and Technology program heavily and are looking to expand into the CS department.

We have a few open positions and are looking for graduating seniors for entry level positions starting summer 2014. We also have an opportunity for interns so we are looking for juniors available for summer 2014. We are interested in both CS and Cybersecurity students for our Information Security and Privacy management practice. It's a different kind of position than is usually available. We don't do software development or IT operations, every project we do is a security project.

    From: john@nycdevshop.com

Last semester I created the Stevens Startup Society as a way for students and alumni to get together to talk about startups and the NYC tech community. As a 2006 Stevens alum, I feel that there is a great opportunity for the school to really embrace all the positive momentum taking place in NYC and in the startup world in general. As a result, I started this group and our first meeting of the semester is going to be [Sept 26] night. • Help a fellow Stevens student with Art & Technology project (posted September 18, 2012)

My name is Diane Bruzzese, I am an Art and Technology student and I am looking to recruit a CS student to help me with my senior project. The project will consist of a sculpture that will have my 3D animations surrounding and interacting with it. But the animations would only be able to be seen using LAYAR's augmented reality program and a mobile device with a camera.

I need a student to help me with programming in LAYAR and to bring my animations into LAYAR's software. Layar uses PHP and MySQL based coding. There are also many tutorials on their website to get you familiar with their software and how to create "layers". I would require their assistance for parts of this term later on when the animations are more complete, and for the beginning they would learn the program. We would also need to work closely in the spring semester, making sure everything works correctly and uploads into the program without problems. The student would also get their name listed along with mine during the senior Art and Technology exhibition in the spring as a co-creator.

If anyone is interested please contact me by email at Diane.bruzzese@gmail.com

    Subject: Introduction/Recruitment Opportunities

I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Nicole Fasolino and I am the Operations Manager at Conigent. I am reaching out to you because I was hoping to establish a relationship with you and potentially recruit your graduates. I found your contact information online and as the Director of the Computer Science department I was hoping you may be able to assist me. My company, Conigent, is an IT consulting firm based out of Haddonfield, NJ specializing in building custom cloud-based applications for large enterprise clients.

We work with large enterprise clients like Sheetz, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Oldcastle Inc. Recently, we developed a performance tracking and member management application, Wodify, for the CrossFit industry. We just launched our application at Reebok CrossFit Back Bay, and Reebok has reached out to us to see how we may partner in the future. Our application is gaining strong momentum in the industry and we still have a lot we want to accomplish with the application and would like to hire additional resources.

Given the growth of our application, we actually have an immediate opening for 1-2 programmers at our company. We are looking for 1-2 talented recent graduates with an eagerness to learn and grow with our organization.

We will also have programming opportunities with our enterprise clients. Our new hires will be able to work alongside and train with our lead architect, train on our PaaS solution, OutSystems, and further develop their programming skills.

Do you have anyone in mind who might fit the bill? We are looking for some of your top performers in the graduating class.

    Here is the job description:

*Rockstar Web App Developer to build Wodify solution for CrossFit. Rockstars only!

Overview: In a nutshell, We (Conigent) are looking for an accomplished web application developer programming experience to further develop our Wodify application for the CrossFit Industry. • - Be a part of a growing start-up business with a great reputation and a passion for innovation and reinventing itself.

    • - Wodify is a flat organization and you work alongside everyone on the Wodify team including Wodify?s founder.
    • - Adults only! We don?t micro-manage. Everyone here is treated like a professional.
    • - We like to have fun: End the day early after a hard week and hang out, drink beers, and eat wings at the local pub with everyone from work or have impromptu lunches (boss?s treat) at the addictive juice and burrito bar across the street.
    • - Company pays for your CrossFit membership
    • - A typical day for us is driving to Boston, demoing Wodify, and working out with world class athletes at Reebok One.

  • 3 Day Startup event (posted February, 28, 2012)

3 Day Startup is entrepreneurship education program designed for university students with an emphasis on learning by doing. The idea is simple: start tech companies over the course of three days. 3 Day Startup runs experiential education events that help students turn their ideas into companies. It gathers students from different disciplines - computer science, MBAs, engineering, design, law, film-making, etc. - and guide them through the early stages of starting a technology company. Over one intense weekend, participants in 3DS events brainstorm ideas, conduct market validation, develop business models, build prototypes, create branding, and pitch to investors and successful entrepreneurs. The result is an experience that challenges participants to innovate, build, and launch real companies.

This year it will be held for the first time in NYC, from April 20-22. It will be held at Hive at 55. Applications are now open to students:http://nyc.3daystartup.org/apply/

  • Part time on campus job: webmaster (posted December 7, 2011)

    From: Dr. Stan Rifkin <srifkin@stevens.edu>

I am hoping that you can help provide me some guidance about where at Stevens -- or outside Stevens -- we might be able to find some talent to help us in specific ways with our web site (http://sercuarc.org). We just lost our primary resource, a person with a Master of Library Science degree who also programs in PHP, XML, HTML, and Visual Basic for Office; knows about various web spiders so that we can collect research results from our 20 collaborator universities; could help us implement a search function for our web site and also perform text content analysis and possibly construct a taxonomy useful for searching systems engineering literature. She was paid $40 per hour by us and had a significant "daytime job." Would you happen to know anyone who might be qualified to help us? It is especially important that he/she know about search (precision vs. recall) and modern web methods.

    From: Jason Schlusser <jason@prioritysupport.com>
    Subject: Student Opportunity

My name is Jason Schlusser and I am the President of Priority Support Inc, a New York City based IT consulting firm and also a Hoboken resident. I would like to discuss with you the possibility of my firm providing a paid internship to one or more of your students. This would be an excellent real world programming situation for someone. Please note we are not looking for free labor and there is already a group of people working on this project.

    The skill set required includes:

    • Rails / Ruby (most important)
    • Mysql
    • MongoDB and large datasets
    • Neo4j and graphing concepts
    • Clientside javascript
    • Html 5 CSS
    • Third Party Web Service integration - Facebook, Amazon, Netfliz, Imdb
    • Internal API creation
    • Mobile Apps via Webservices i.e. Phonegap
    • Linux administration
